Businesses are not immune to the current drive to improve overall health and fitness. Not surprisingly, the underlying principles of Sports Coaching and Executive Coaching are very similar. A healthy business thrives and grows; it has resilience and stamina. There is regular monitoring to ensure the different departments are functioning effectively. Think in these terms: If you have buildings, machinery, IT, etc, you probably have rolling maintenance/ replacement programmes that ensure reliability. When items need upgrading or replacing, you are alerted and take the necessary steps to rectify the problem(s). It may be helpful to consider your human resources in the same way. Without the human element, there is no business, there are no customers. Investment in staff training and development represents your investment in the future just as much as your maintenance budgets. We can help you to focus on the different areas of your business and the people who work in it, to identify where change and/or development would enhance performance. Call or email for a discussion of what we can do for you.
While businesses of all sizes have begun to explore the advantages of Executive Coaching, there is some confusion over what the term Executive Coaching implies and who provides this service. Well-qualified, professionals, who are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and are Chartered Psychologists (CPsychol), in general, undertake such intervention. Many will have business qualifications, eg, are Occupational or Business Psychologists and members of other professional organisations such as the Association of Business Psychologists (ABP), the CIPD and the Coaching Psychology Forum. Others, however, are, called Counselling Psychologists, and have very similar qualifications and provide a seemingly similar service. Potential clients, seeking to make improvements in the efficiency of their business, may not feel that they are able to judge which type of service they require. The following notes are intended only as information and do not seek to influence the decisions of the business community. No doubt there will be those who disagree with the brief contrast/ comparison made here. In general, counselling psychologists will take a psychotherapeutic approach to coaching, in order to resolve conflict between the person and his/her role within the organisation. In effect, the approach implies that levels of personal dysfunction in the client, in terms of her/his work, are to be resolved. The primary emphasis is, therefore, on the individual rather than the organisation. However, other psychologists (business, occupational, sports, etc) who provide Executive Coaching but are not counselling psychologists, direct their attention to both the individual and the organisation/team within which she/he works. Thus improving the client's personal fitness for the role he or she plays, and the results of his or her performance, are both integral to the coaching process. Executive Coaching can offer very real benefits to both individuals and organisations in terms of improved relationships, reduction of conflict and swifter, more accepting, adaptation to change.
We recognise the difficulties that face small companies and their relative lack of resources when compared with large organisations. We also know how stretched they are, in terms of time available to handle work-related matters. We offer a check-up system, whereby we assess your business in terms of: Personnel (Recruitment, Training & Development), Communications, IT, Website etc. We prepare a report on our findings giving recommendations for change and development. We negotiate a one-off fee for this service, depending on the size of your business and any further work will be charged at an appropriate daily rate. We also offer Executive Coaching for managers in SMEs to help them identify areas for personal development that will deliver real improvements in the running of their businesses.
